Freshmen who want to make a difference in their communities may make a commitment to pursue a program of study that includes community service opportunities in their college learning experience.
With the permission of one’s home institution, any student in good standing at another institution of higher education can enroll in The Living Lab at UNO service learning experience for a semester.
University of New Orleans students in good academic standing can elect to enroll in a service learning experience with permission of an advisor. Additional Living Lab service learning experiences also may be considered for eligible students.
Graduate students may choose to work with their graduate advisor to design an academic program that includes service learning experiences in a variety of fields, working in economic development offices of local and regional government agencies; working with teams of researchers and industry experts engaged in wetlands and coastal restoration, or in rebuilding levees; or serving in internships in various community and social service organizations that provide a variety of community and individual services such as counseling, neighborhood restoration, or mentoring youth.
Local and out-of-state students may choose to enroll in intensive internship experiences during the summer. These value-added experiences mayincludetours of theNew Orleans region, additional educational experiences, and lodging, as well as some meal functions.
